About Michael

How I Got Started

I took my first picture at Calcasieu Lake in Louisiana. I was 17, and I wanted to capture the way the fog sits on the water on a cool morning at the end of summer. Photography had hooked me and wouldn’t let go.

Things I’ve learned while taking photographs

  • Photographing the world is a constant learning process. Playing music is another one.
  • Look for beauty wherever you go. You’ll find it.
  • Adapt
  • Do something fun every day

How I work

I started my photography journey by taking mostly landscape and nature photographs. As I loved the outdoors, it was a natural place to start. Every time I camped and hiked, my camera was always with me. I also loved recording important events; birthdays, holidays, family reunions, friends, etc.

My fascination with recording unique moments in time has been a thread throughout my photographic career. Those moments all have one thing in common. They will never be repeated. Whether it’s a sunrise/sunset, a flower opening, a person’s mood captured in a portrait, a special trip, etc.; all are unique. Therefore it was a natural progression for me to begin taking more portraits and travel/editorial photographs. Those moments in time capture a mood, an experience, or a person interacting with their environment.

Bottom line, whenever I’m taking photographs, I’m happy. Secondly, I’m engaged. Thirdly, I’m expressing my creativity and I’m enjoying the world around me.
